Ramblings

Wait, what do you mean "transplant?"

To avoid being overly long-winded, I will start this by saying there is so much information and detail that prefaced the actual surgery. Long story less long...I was a functional alcoholic. I drank myself into a position, along with some other 'unknown' liver defect, where my liver had completely failed and I was dying.

This is where the story really starts to get going.

In Texas, and most states for that matter, transplantation of an organ requires a stint of sobriety in order to ensure that the recipient is 'worth' the risk. If you have ever watched the popular show "Shameless" you may understand why. This is a regulation that is meant to assist the successful donation and receipt of the donated organ. I completely understand why this is a thing. In my case though, the understanding of the rules didn't mean that I would live. I had less than 3 months to "live" and the outcome was bleak.Â
